Escape is a mobile sculpture I created to represent the impact of the Coronavirus on humanity. It features four tiny figures riding four birds, suspended from a hoop that symbolizes the four corners of the world. At the center, the virus hovers, while the figures seem to take flight—both literally and metaphorically—escaping not just the virus, but the harsh realities of the pandemic into a kind of “flight of fancy.”

Each bird and figure is tied with a red ribbon, a symbol of blood and the connections that bind us all together. The spread of Coronavirus revealed how deeply intertwined our lives are, and the mobile reflects my belief that escaping the virus requires participation and care from everyone. In making this piece, I wanted to show that we are all connected, and that our actions ripple outward, affecting each other in ways we often cannot see.
